My journey at the CING started in 2017 with my MSc in Molecular Medicine, followed by a PhD in the same programme. My doctoral research at the Molecular Genetics Thalassaemia Department focused on “Genome Editing for β-Haemoglobinopathies Without Double-Strand DNA Cleavage,” which introduced me to the world of gene therapy and its vast potential for clinical application, a path I continue to follow today as a Postdoctoral Fellow. My current work centres on targeted base editing for β-thalassaemia, aiming to correct the most common mutation in Cyprus.
My studies at the CING shaped not only my scientific expertise but also my mindset. They helped me build strong research foundations and equipped me with essential scientific skills. But more importantly, they taught me to combine precision with curiosity and determination with purpose. Working alongside inspiring mentors and passionate colleagues fostered an environment where ambition met compassion, and research truly felt meaningful.
To new students: embrace every challenge, ask every question, and stay open to learning beyond the lab bench. The CING offers more than an education, it offers a community that helps you grow into the scientist you aspire to be.
