The Bioinformatics Department at CING serves as a hub of excellence in the areas of applied bioinformatics for early diagnosis, effective prognosis and drug discovery contributing to the concepts of Preventive, Personalized and Precise Medicine (https://www.cing.ac.cy/en/about-us/bi).

JOB SUMMARY 

 

We are looking for a Neuropsychologist to join the Clinical Sciences Section of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.

The Clinical Sciences section of the Institute, acts as a tertiary referral centre and provides outpatient and inpatient care, diagnosis and treatment for patients with neurological diseases.  

This is a permanent, full-time position.  
 

The successful candidate will conduct independent clinical work by analysing the functioning of the brain and assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from neuropsychological disorders. Additionally, he/she may engage in research and education. 

 

REQUIREMENTS


-    An undergraduate degree in psychology or in a related field; and 
-    A Master’s degree in neuropsychology or neurosciences or related field; and
-    Licence from the Cyprus Board of Registration of Psychologists; and
-    A minimum of 1 year of clinical experience; and

JOB SUMMARY

The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics is looking for a full time Senior Scientist/Department Head in its Molecular Genetics Thalassaemia Department. The successful candidate is expected to start on the 2nd of May 2023

The Molecular Genetics Thalassaemia Department is involved in studies aimed towards the areas of haemoglobinopathies and other rare haematological diseases and provide specialized diagnostic services, advanced research and education.

The suitable candidate will head, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. Moreover, he/she will exercise leadership, demonstrate vision and empower others in order to deliver the agreed strategy of the Institute. The above position is combined with a faculty position at the appropriate rank commensurate with experience and track record at the post-graduate School of the Institute.
    
He/she will be accountable to the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director and will be a member of the Institute’s Scientific Council. 
 


WHAT WE ARE SEEKING


•    PhD in any Biological Science, Chemistry or closely related field; and
•    A minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience in the field of rare anaemias including haemoglobinopathies; and
•    Proven ability to design and carry out original and independent research projects that result in publication; and
•    Supervisory experience; and
•    Command of the Greek and/or Turkish and English languages

Experience in molecular genetics/genomics, gene therapy and functional genomics will be considered an advantage.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Clinical Geneticist/Department Head to head the Clinical Genetics & Genomics Department of the Institute, based at the Institute’s premises in Nicosia, Cyprus. 

The Department, acts as a reference centre for the whole of Cyprus and provides outpatients and inpatient care, diagnosis, management and counselling on the whole spectrum of genetic diseases. It’s an official member of the European Reference Networks, ERN-ITHACA and additionally, several research projects are carried out in collaboration with other departments at CING and other hospitals or clinics.

What you will be doing:

The suitable candidate will head the Clinical Genetics & Genomics Department as certified medical doctor trained in the diagnosis, treatment and management of genetic diseases. 
Additionally, he/she may engage in research and education. The above position is combined with a faculty position at the appropriate rank commensurate with experience and track record at the post-graduate School of the Institute.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Neurologist to be based in the Institute’s premises in Nicosia, Cyprus.

What you will be doing:
  • Support the Institute in the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological diseases
  • Have the opportunity to order and study the results of para-clinical studies to determine the nature and extent of the diseases and to supervise medical technicians in the performance of neurological diagnostic or therapeutic activities
  • Consult with patients to determine the appropriate course of treatment and will also liaise with other health care, medical/non-medical, professionals regarding patients' conditions to ensure that all patients' needs are met
  • Carry out specialist clinics and laboratory sessions (neurophysiology, neuropathology, and neurovascular
  • Participate in academic meetings with neurological colleagues for learning and development and to discuss cases as a team, drawing on the expertise of other specialists
  • Have the opportunity to initiate, design and submit applications for the funding of original research projects for which he/she is the principal investigator, as well as to seek external sources of funding and submit the approved applications to the appropriate funding bodies
  • Carry out the research funded by the institute and by outside sources, aided by his/her scientific staff and to make his/her own plans for publication
  • Participate in the academic activities of the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine, including teaching in the CSMM programs, and will supervise MSc/PhD students
 
 
What you need to have:
  • A Medical degree with a subspecialty in Neurology
  • A recognized board certification in Neurology
  • License or eligible for license from the Pancyprian Medical Association
  • Fluency in both Greek and English, written and spoken
  • Good diagnostic skills to determine the type of disease or condition, its severity and extent
  • Excellent problem-solving and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to work alone and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with research methods and a willingness to keep up to date with advances in treatments
