Denise O'Mahoney
MSc Medical Genetics and PhD Medical Genetics Graduate
My journey at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics began with an MSc and continued with a PhD in Medical Genetics in the Biostatistics Unit. My research involved developing and applying statistical methods to support the interpretation and identification of variants linked to breast cancer risk. Through this project, I had the opportunity to collaborate with inspiring researchers and participate in projects of major international consortia such as ENIGMA and BCAC. During my studies, an Erasmus mobility program in Oslo led to a position as a Principal Engineer and Postdoctoral Fellow. Today, I am back at the CING as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the same unit where my journey began, continuing to explore cancer genetics through a statistical lens. Looking back, CING has been instrumental in shaping my scientific development and career trajectory. My advice to new students is to stay curious and embrace every opportunity, you never know where it might take you.
