MSc Medical Genetics and PhD Medical Genetics Graduate

My academic journey at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) has been one of the most formative and rewarding experiences of my career. During my MSc and PhD studies in Medical Genetics, I had the privilege of working under the guidance of an excellent Professor/Supervisor whose mentorship shaped both my scientific thinking and my professional ethos. The supportive environment, hands-on exposure to real data analysis and access to cutting-edge research tools allowed me to grow into an independent researcher and develop a deep appreciation for rigorous, collaborative science.

The CING offered far more than academic training, it provided a vibrant scientific community, a culture of curiosity and an environment where young scientists are encouraged to explore, ask questions and innovate. The experience I gained through my research on the phylogenetic structure of the Cypriot population laid the foundation for my current work and continues to influence the way I approach scientific challenges today.

I am now a Post-Doctoral Researcher at biobank.cy, the Center of Excellence in Biobanking and Biomedical Research, where I focus on the genetics of nephropathies and the study of dialysis patients within the CY-Biobank project. In parallel, I serve as a part-time lecturer, teaching Biotechnology to Biology students—an opportunity that allows me to share the knowledge and inspiration I have gained throughout my academic and research career. As a postdoctoral researcher, I have also had the opportunity to participate in student activities and outreach events, including the European Researchers’ Night, further strengthening my engagement with the scientific community and the public.

As Chair of the CING Alumni Committee, I am proud to contribute to strengthening the connections within our growing alumni community. My time at the CING equipped me not only with the scientific skills essential for my field, but also with the confidence, professionalism and collaborative spirit that continue to guide my career. It remains an experience I deeply value and a foundation upon which I continue to build.
