MSc Molecular Medicine and PhD Molecular Medicine Graduate

During my time at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics (CING), I had the privilege of completing both my MSc (2017–2018) and PhD (2018–2024) degrees in Molecular Medicine. My MSc research, conducted at Neurology Clinic A, focused on a therapeutic trial for Alzheimer’s disease where we studied the effects of a C5a agonist in the 5XFAD mouse model. Building upon this foundation, my PhD was a collaborative project between the Neuroepidemiology & Cancer Genetics, Therapeutics, and Ultrastructural Pathology departments, where we investigated the genetic and epigenetic landscapes of early-onset Parkinson’s disease in Cyprus. Currently, I am a Post-doctoral Fellow and Clinical Research Coordinator at the Clinical Sciences Department at CING. I entered the field of clinical trials in August 2019 during my PhD studies and have since coordinated numerous clinical trials at our site. This experience has equipped me with key interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills that continue to shape my professional development. 

My time at CING has been transformative, offering me a real perspective on how the scientific and medical communities work hand in hand, and on the importance of collaboration in achieving meaningful progress. Through my involvement in clinical trials, I came to appreciate how this field serves as a vital bridge between research and patient care. I feel honoured to be a part of the clinical trials unit at CING, and look forward to continuing to strengthen and expand it in the future. To new students beginning their journey at CING, I would advise embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. Engage actively with your mentors and peers, stay curious, and show dedication in your work—your commitment will be recognized and valued. Above all, be a team player: support others, collaborate openly, and make the most of every experience.
