PhD Molecular Medicine Graduate

I completed both my MSc and PhD at the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine, which I joined in its inaugural year in 2012. My PhD research, which in 2018, focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms that drive dorsal midbrain neurogenesis. During my studies, I developed a strong foundation in laboratory research, with specialized training in in utero mouse embryo manipulation, transgenic mouse generation, and in vivo gene delivery using viral vectors and electroporation. I was trained to work independently and to apply rigorous critical thinking, skills that have enabled me to excel in highly competitive research environments following my graduate training. A testament to these strong foundations is my current position as a Research Associate at Columbia University, where I investigate the signalling mechanisms underlying retinal development and homeostasis. As I embark on the next stage of my career as an independent researcher, I continue to draw on the rigorous and comprehensive training I received during my studies, which not only advanced my scientific expertise but also instilled in me a strong sense of professionalism. To anyone embarking on a similar academic journey, my advice is to take full advantage of the friendly and supportive environment at CING, to learn as much as possible, and to approach every challenge not as a hindrance, but as an opportunity for personally development.
