MSc Molecular Medicine Graduate

I joined the CING in 2013 to study MSc Molecular Medicine, completing my dissertation project at the Molecular Pathology Department under the supervision of Dr. Andreas Hadjisavvas. My research focused on investigating DNA mutations in females presenting with Early-Onset Breast Cancer who were negative for BRCA1/2 mutations.

My experience at the CING was extremely enriching. I had the opportunity to learn from world-class scientists and gain hands-on, applied skills through access to the Institute’s diverse research and diagnostic facilities. The CING’s unique advantage lies in its integration of teaching, research, and clinical diagnostic services, particularly for patients with rare diseases. This multidisciplinary environment equipped me with the expertise needed to secure a PhD studentship in the UK and later build a successful career in the United States, supporting pharmaceutical companies in immuno-oncology clinical trials. Today, as the founder of a CRO providing Analytical and Clinical Performance Evaluation for IVD manufacturers, I continue to apply the foundation built during my time at the CING.

The programmes at the CING are ideal for aspiring scientists who wish to bridge research, diagnostics and academic development. My advice to new students is to embrace every opportunity to learn across disciplines, the skills and perspectives you gain at the CING will serve as a powerful tool for your future career.
