MSc Medical Genetics Graduate

My name is Rawan Alaseeri, and I am a proud member of the CING Class of 2025, graduating from the MSc Medical Genetics program. I had the privilege of completing my thesis within CING’s Bioinformatics Department under the supervision of Prof. George Spyrou and Dr. Marios Tomazou, during which I developed a semi-automated program for ACMG variant classification. I am now working as a Medical Genomics Researcher at the Bahrain Genome Project.

I am sincerely grateful for the full scholarship I received from CING and the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which enabled me to pursue my studies at such a well-respected and supportive institution. CING offers a unique environment, one where students are continuously exposed to the scientific work they aspire to join, both in research and in clinical practice, and where they are welcomed not only as learners but as fellow scientists. My time at CING strengthened both my scientific understanding and my practical skills, and I apply that foundation every day in my current role.

To those beginning their academic journey at CING, I could repeat the familiar academic advice, but instead, I would encourage you to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Put yourself out there. Make friends. Attend guest lectures. Take every opportunity to meet people. Ask about their research, their hometown, or even their favorite cafeteria order. Ask about their backgrounds, experiences, and their advice. In those conversations and connections, you will find inspiration, knowledge, and a meaningful network. And truly, there is no better place to build all of these than at CING.
