The main aim of the event is the establishment of an IMI network in Cyprus, the promotion of current and future IMI calls in the region as well as to overcome challenges for Cyprus to participate in IMI projects.

The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is Europe’s largest public-private initiative aiming to speed up the development of better and safer medicines for patients. With a €2 billion euro budget, IMI supports collaborative research projects and builds networks of industrial and academic experts in Europe that will boost innovation in healthcare. IMI is a joint undertaking between the European Union and the pharmaceutical industry association EFPIA. The European Union contributes €1 billion to the IMI research programme, which is matched by in kind contributions worth at least another €1 billion from the member companies of EFPIA.
