Research Interests

  • Identification of disease associated genes and risk factors.
  • Understanding molecular mechanisms that lead to pathogenesis and disease.
  • Contribution towards the development of more effective therapies for the benefit of the patient.

Biography

Professor Kyproula Christodoulou obtained her BSc degree in Genetics from Queen Mary College – University of London (1987), her MSc degree in Applied Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from University College London – University of London (1988) and her PhD degree in Human Genetics from Imperial College - University of London (1995). She is employed at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics since January 1989. She is the Head of the Neurogenetics Department, directing/administrating the Department and its diagnostic services, research and educational programs. She has set up ISO accredited molecular diagnostic services for a wide range of neurogenetic and other diseases, a service that is being used by the Cypriot and neighbouring countries clinicians. Through her research activities she mapped several rare disease genes and contributed towards the identification of a number of neurogenetic disease genes. She participated as a principal or co-investigator in 35 research projects with a total funding of over 6.0 million Euro allocated to CING. She is an author of 64 peer reviewed scientific publications. She mentored and supervised several MSc and PhD students. She is also a Professor at the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics.
