The department operates the only Transmission Electron Microscope available in Cyprus which offers a centralized ultrastructural diagnostic service in histopathology, that contributes to the correct histopathological diagnosis of many diseases. Furthermore  the department offers several molecular tests related to cancer genetics, that cover two main areas: cancer predisposition and pharmaco-genetics as explained below.  In addition to carrying out the above diagnostic services the department has established itself as a national center for executing research programs, that focus on cancer epidemiology and cancer genetics.
