JOB SUMMARY

The successful candidate will perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties according to the needs of the Clinical Sciences section, such as:  

  • Greet and direct patients
  • Register patients
  • Operate the switchboard, record messages and transfer calls.  
  • Provide information to visitors/callers
  • Arrange for distribution of incoming mail, samples and packages
  • Receive patients’ co-payments and issue receipts
  • Perform support/office related duties as needed 

This is a permanent, part-time position (25 hours/week). 

 

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING

  • A High school diploma; and

We are looking for an inspirational Senior Scientist/Department Head to lead the Department of Cardiovascular Genetics and the Laboratory of Forensic Genetics of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING). 

The successful candidate is expected to start on the 2nd of October 2024

The Cardiovascular Genetics Department (CGVFG) provides genetic diagnostic services and is involved in studies aimed towards the understanding of the role of genetics, epigenetics and other factors that affect the expression of genes in the development of cardiovascular conditions in Cyprus. 

The Laboratory of Forensic Genetics (LabFoG) of the CING uses state of the art DNA‐based typing methodologies to study evidence from civil, criminal, mass disaster and missing persons investigations. It also provides expert witness testimony in Courts of Law. Additionally, the LabFoG participates in international research activities and collaborative networks. 

 

JOB SUMMARY

The suitable candidate will head, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. Moreover, he/she will exercise leadership, demonstrate vision and empower others in order to deliver the agreed strategy of the Institute. The above position is combined with a faculty position at the appropriate rank commensurate with experience and track record at the post-graduate School of the Institute.    
He/she will be accountable to the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director and will be a member of the Institute’s Scientific Council. 


WHAT WE ARE SEEKING

We welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in any Biological Science, Chemistry or closely related field. Moreover, a minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience in the disciplines related to the department and laboratory is needed; emphasis will be given to candidates with experience in the provision of expert witness testimony for criminal cases in courts and the management of teams related to forensic genetic investigations. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to design and carry out original and independent research projects that result in publication. Lastly, applicants should have managerial experience and excellent knowledge of the Greek and English languages.

We are looking for a talented Senior Scientist/Department Head to lead the Department of Molecular Virology of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING). 

The successful candidate is expected to start on the 1st of September 2024. 

The Molecular Virology (MV) Department provides qualitative and quantitative diagnostic tests for specific and accurate diagnosis of viral infection. The department’s research interest focuses on the involvement of microorganisms such as viruses and/or bacteria in neurodegenerative diseases (multiple sclerosis, ALS, Parkinsons). It is the reference laboratory for the typing and surveillance of enteroviruses since 1996 and SARS-CoV-2 since 2020. In addition, the MV department was assigned by the Cyprus Ministry of Health as the Operational Contact Point (OCP) for West-Nile Virus as well as Tick-borne Encephalitis infections following the strategy by the ECDC. Furthermore, it serves as substitute OCP for emerging viruses in Cyprus.

What you will be doing:

The suitable candidate will be part of the Clinical Genetics & Genomics Department as certified medical doctor trained in the diagnosis, treatment and management of genetic diseases. Additionally, he/she may engage in research and education. 

The successful candidate will be accountable to the Senior Clinical Geneticist/Department Head.
