European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS)

ECTS Defined
According to the European Commission, “The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme, objectives preferably specified in terms of the learning outcomes and competences to be acquired”.

ECTS used for CSMM Programs
All Programs of the CSMM use the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which takes into consideration the workload for:

1. class attendance
2. homework
3. exam preparation
4. other learning activities
5. lab work
6. thesis write-up


In order to be awarded their title, students must successfully complete all courses included in their Program’s curriculum including any other MSc or PhD degree requirements such as their Library or Laboratory project (thesis) or PhD examination and at least one academic publication. ECTS course exemptions may be granted subject to review on a case by case basis and on request.  A Diploma Supplement written in English will be awarded for free to each graduating student.

ECTS for Courses= 13 weeks * (Teaching+Tutorial+Homework preparation i.e. Lecture Material Review & Assignments/Quizzes & Research Literature Review + Other Learning Activities i.e. Participation in Seminars/Conferences + Laboratory Work + Exam(s) preparation) / 25
