Accreditation

 

 

Since 1998, the department and all of its services are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP, USA, LAP Number 6848901 AU-ID 1191310) which acts as guideline for the development of policies, procedures, and processes to help ensure accurate, reliable laboratory test results. Since then the department participates successfully in all relevant Proficiency Testing Schemes of CAP. 

CAP (College of American Pathologists) is an organization of board-certified pathologists that serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide. The CAP accreditation checklists include many valuable features like solid foundations for ensuring excellence in patient safety and compliance. They also act as guidelines for development of policies, procedures, and processes to help ensure accurate, reliable laboratory test results.

Since 2006, the department also participates in many laboratory schemes of the Cytogenetic External Quality Assessment Service (CEQAS) and the European Molecular Genetics Quality Network (EMQN) seeking to maintain and provide the best quality service.

Since 2014, in order also to ensure quality, safety and efficiency following the European standards, the department has been accredited by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 15189) (CYS EN ISO 15189:2007 CERTIFICATE no. L061) (tests codes 25, 26, 62, 64, 66, 67, 71, 80, 81, 82, 83 are excluded).  The department continues to be accredited with ISO15189:2012 since the 14th of January 2016.
